Worplesdon Primary School

Helping children develop a love of life and learning.

Year 4

Welcome to Year 4.  We pride ourselves on being excellent role models to the younger children in the school by modelling impeccable behaviour during lessons and when moving around the school.  We learn about many exciting topics throughout the year such as the Ancient Egyptians, Rivers and Coasts and The Romans.  We love developing our writing skills by creating information reports, stories and poems about our topics.

Important Things to Know

 P.E. Kit

P.E. kits are expected to always be in school. P.E. lessons are on Mondays and Wednesdays

In the winter months P.E. lessons will be outside, so it is worthwhile having a grey tracksuit.

Children who do not have their P.E. kit in school will be doing P.E. in their uniform or in one of our spare P.E. kits.

Please avoid sending your child to school wearing earrings on P.E. days.

 Homework

English, Math and Spelling homework will be set every Friday to be handed in on the following Wednesday.

Homework should take no more than half an hour per subject.

If your child is stuck, please encourage them to come and see their Class Teacher, before the due date, so that we can help them.

Occasionally, project homework will be set that will take a number of weeks to complete; these might replace the separate English and Math homework.

The children are expected to complete a minimum of three signed reads per week in their reading diary.

Children are expected to use neat handwriting at all times when completing homework.

 Reading

Reading books and diaries should be in school every day.

They will be checked each Thursday.

The School uses a wide variety of reading schemes that directly link with the National Bookband Scheme.

We expect to see three signed reads per week.

Snacks

Please ****  NO NUTS  ****

Children are allowed to bring in a piece of fresh fruit or vegetables to eat at break time and are encouraged to have a bottle of water in the classroom to keep hydrated.

Parents

If there are any questions or concerns, please drop in to see the Class Teacher or leave a note in your child’s reading diary. We are here to help.
