Welcome to Year 1 and to the Infants. In Year 1 the children learn about so many exciting things, through Reading, Writing, Maths, Art, D.T., Computing, History, Geography, R.E., P.E. and Science. Topics are linked to these subjects to provide a relevant, cross-curricular approach to the children’s learning, catering for all learners.
Who Are the Teachers ?
Mrs Beight & Mrs Potts (Class Teacher)
Miss Francis & Mrs Clarke (Class Teacher)
Important Things to Know
P.E. kits are expected to always be in school. P.E. lessons are on Mondays and Tuesdays.
In the winter months P.E. lessons will be outside, so it is worthwhile having a grey tracksuit. Children who do not have their P.E. kit in school will be doing PE in their uniform or in one of our spare P.E. kits.
Please avoid sending your child to school wearing earrings on P.E. days.
Please also ensure if your child wears tights on a P.E. day that they have a spare pair of socks to wear for their P.E. lesson.
After October half term, children will be set spellings to learn at home. They will have a check each week and new spellings will be set.
If your child needs to practice certain spellings a little longer, then these will be sent back in their books.
We will also send home any spellings that they need to practice from their independent written work e.g. tricky words.
Reading books and diaries should be in school every day.
The reading scheme that KS1 follow is Jolly Phonics. The School uses a wide variety of reading schemes that directly link with the National Bookband Scheme.
We expect to see three signed reads per week.
Regular reading at home really supports children’s progress but most importantly builds their confidence as a reader.
Please **** NO NUTS ****
Children are allowed to bring in a piece of fresh fruit or vegetables to eat at break time and are encouraged to have a bottle of water in the classroom to keep hydrated.
Please ensure snacks are sent in a named container or bag.
